ABOUT US
The Blossom Effect is a non-profit dedicated to supporting autistic girls to flourish in the education system by raising awareness and providing guidance to parents and teachers.
The research and resources for autism in girls are limited in comparison to boys but as more attention is brought to the female autistic brain, we aim to change the narrative of the education experience!
We know that every autistic girl is different and our approach reflects that. We believe in a student-led education and our goal is to empower girls to acknowledge and communicate how their brain learns best.
About TBE’s Founder
My own journey through education was pretty horrendous! Between struggling to make and maintain friendships, battling sensory difficulties and not reaching my academic potential, my life between ages 4-21 sadly looked similar to that of most undiagnosed autistic girls.
Secondly, for the wonderful teachers. I used to think my teachers didn't care if I sank or swam but looking back, they really were rooting for me! With a lack of resources and a class full of unique students, they were just at their wit's end! Why is this girl, with so much potential, not absorbing any of the information we give her?!
Finally, and maybe most importantly, for the parents, just like mine, who can see the sparkle in their little girl and know she could soar but can’t understand why she’s in so much pain or how to help her!
If nothing else, I want the Blossom Effect to bridge all the gigantic communication gaps so that parents, teachers and autistic girls can all feel heard. I want this project to finally provide some light on all the unanswered questions and give autistic girls an equal opportunity to flourish!
